Practice
Dr. Hughes is a comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in small incision surgery, glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), laser surgery, macular degeneration, and diabetic diseases of the eye. He has a special interest in the use of advanced technology intraocular lenses to reduce patients’ dependance on glasses after cataract surgery. He performs routine comprehensive examinations, as well as those for the management of ocular disease. Dr. Hughes sees patients at our Innsbrook and Midlothian offices.
Education
Dr. Hughes completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky where he served as chief resident. He received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky in his hometown. He is a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.
Personal Interests
Dr. Hughes grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife (a native Virginian) and their dog, Maple. He also enjoys cooking, hiking, camping, tennis, golf, and UK and UVA college basketball.
