David M. Bowman, M.D.
Practice
Dr. Bowman is a Board Certified ophthalmologist (American Board of Ophthalmology) specializing in small incision cataract extraction with lens implant, glaucoma, laser surgery, macular degeneration, and the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic diseases of the eye. He has a particular interest in the use of advanced technology intraocular lenses to reduce patients’ dependance on glasses after cataract surgery. He performs routine comprehensive examinations, as well as those for the management of ocular disease. Dr. Bowman sees patients at our Innsbrook and Midlothian offices.
Dr. Bowman is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, among others. He frequently serves as managing partner of Richmond Eye Associates. Dr. Bowman operates at the Stony Point Surgery Center. He is a multi-year winner of the MEDARVA Patient Choice Award.
Education
Dr. Bowman is a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar. He received his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. Throughout medical school, Dr. Bowman was recognized with numerous awards, including several for academic achievement, highest class standing, and excellence in ophthalmology and medical biochemistry. He completed an internship in Internal Medicine and residency in Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Virginia, where he served as chief resident.
Personal Interests
Dr. Bowman lives in Richmond with his wife and children. He is an accomplished kite, drone, and airplane-based aerial photographer and videographer, with several works published in The Journal of the American Kite Flyers Association. He is also an amateur graphic designer, with experience in many computer based artistic endeavors. His creations for the Egg-Bot spherical plotting device have been downloaded and executed thousands of times all over the world. His digitization of the Signers of the Declaration is used by the Evil Mad Scientist company, creators of the Egg-Bot, to demonstrate small scale robotics to school children. On clear nights, Dr. Bowman can be found tracking and photographing deep space objects, millions of miles distant, with his telescope and astrophotography cameras. Dr. Bowman is active in University of Virginia alumni activities, and is a former board member of the University of Virginia Richmond Club.
