Harold A. Bernstein, M.D.
Dr. Bernstein is a Board Certified ophthalmologist (American Board of Ophthalmology) specializing in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma utilizing medications, lasers, and several surgical modalities at the forefront of today’s technology. His interests also include cataract surgery with lens implant. Dr. Bernstein has office hours at all of our locations, including our Innsbrook office, Midlothian office, and our Mechanicsville office.
Dr. Bernstein is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, Virginia Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons, and the American Medical Association, and is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Bernstein has hospital privileges at Stony Point Surgery Center, as well as consulting privileges at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital and Memorial Regional Medical Center, and Henrico Doctors Hospital. He has served on several boards and committees at Stony Point Surgery Center, including the Medical Executive Committee, and he is on the board of the Medarva Foundation (formerly the Richmond Eye and Ear Foundation).
Dr. Bernstein served 4 years active duty in the United States Military as a Medical Officer departing the service with the rank of LCDR. He has been with Richmond Eye Associates since that time in the practice of ophthalmology and the sub-specialty of glaucoma. Dr. Bernstein also served as clinical instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System for first 7 years of his practice.
Dr. Bernstein completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma with Alan Kolker, M.D. at Glaucoma Consultants/Washington University of St. Louis after a residency in Ophthalmology at the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. He completed an internship at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine of Detroit, Michigan. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Dr. Bernstein enjoys spending time with his family, and has interest in classic sports cars, travel, running, working out and sports (playing/watching).
