Barry E. Roper, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S.

Barry E. Roper, M.D. is a Board Certified
ophthalmologist (American Board of Ophthalmology) specializing in small incision cataract surgery with intraocular
lens implantation, medical and surgical management of glaucoma, and diagnosis
and treatment of diseases of the eye. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a Fellow
of the American College of Surgeons. He is a past Chief of Staff of the Richmond
Eye and Ear Hospital and has served on the Committee on Applicants for the
American College of Surgeons for over ten years.
Dr. Roper completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of
Virginia where he served as Chief Resident. More recently, he received a Master
of Business Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University through
the Fast Track MBA Program. He serves as a board member on the Richmond Eye and
Ear Hospital Foundation, the Richmond Eye and Ear Healthcare Alliance, the
Richmond Academy of Medicine’s Bioterrorism Task Force. He also serves as
the Medical Society of Virginia’s representative to Anthem’s Medical Advisory
Panel and provides ophthalmic support for the Lupus Foundation of Virginia as a
member of its Physician Advisory Board.
Dr. Roper served as Chief Physician and
Director of Aeromedical Services while on active duty as a Flight Surgeon with
the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. Dr. Roper also has been
affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America for over thirty years and he has been
honored with the Silver Beaver Award by the Heart of Virginia Council. He served
as SubCamp Chief Physician for the Southeast Region during three National
Jamborees and is a life member of both the National Eagle Scout Association and
Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity.
Dr. Roper has been selected for inclusion in editions of Richmond’s Top Docs,
The Best Doctors in America, and Guide to America’s Top
Ophthalmologists.
