Malcolm Magovern, M.D. | Ophthalmologist | Richmond VA | Glen Allen VAMalcolm Magovern M.D. is a Board Certified ophthalmologist (American Board of Ophthalmology) with fellowship training in Corneal and External Disease. Additionally, Dr. Magovern specializes in small incision cataract extraction with lens implant and the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. Dr. Magovern performs comprehensive eye examinations both of a routine nature, as well as for diagnosing and treating eye disease. Dr. Magovern has office hours at all of our locations, including our Innsbrook office, Midlothian office, and our Mechanicsville office.

Dr. Magovern has active membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Castroviejo Corneal Society, the Eye Bank Association of America and the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and an active staff member of Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center and Stony Point Surgery Center.

Dr. Magovern has served as the Medical Director of the Old Dominion Eye Bank in Richmond, VA. He served as Chief of the Ophthalmology Service in the military. Dr. Magovern has acted as Instructor for Corneal and External Disease Courses for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and has several publications related to Corneal and External Disease.

Education

Dr. Magovern completed a Fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the Washington Medical Center in Washington D.C. after completing an ophthalmology residency at Grady Memorial Hospital and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He received an M.D. degree from the medical school at Georgetown University, and a B.A degree from Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA.
