The Benefits of Titanium Glasses Frames

Titanium Glasses Frames may seem like an expensive and unnecessary luxury. However, titanium offers many benefits over traditional frame material that can more than make up for their cost. Titanium is a unique metal that is lightweight, flexible, and bendable, thus offering many advantages over stainless steel and other frame materials. The cost of processing titanium frames is higher than many other frame materials, which is related to costs associated with welding thin frame pieces, and plating and coloring of this metal.

In frames, titanium can be used alone, or as an alloy with other metals where the titanium makes up about 75%. In both of these situations, the frames have a high degree of ductability and malleability. In this situation, the metal of the frame can bend or elongate without breaking. Instead, it returns to its original shape. Its very high tensile strength makes titanium a good choice for safety frames, but it also lends itself toward frames with very thin rims and delicate designs.

Titanium frames are known to be more lightweight than conventional frames. This is not only due to the strength of titanium (allowing less metal to be used), but also due to the fact that titanium is about 40% lighter than steel. This is very useful for individuals who are bothered by the weight of glasses, and when combined with high density lens material, can lead to very light glasses.

Titanium is virtually inert, and thus very rarely causes skin reactions. It is often used in prosthetic devices in other parts of the body as well. Titanium is resistant to corrosion, and does not create a green rust.

Titanium glasses frames function very well for both men and women, in general. They are low maintenance, and return visits to the optical shop for adjustments are minimal. In adults with young children, they can be "pulled off of your face" without bending, breaking, or requiring adjusting. This durability can be a very appealing and cost-effective option.
